Here's a video for people who wanted to see how I handle black and white with screentones.  No audio since there really isn't much to say.  But if you have questions feel free to ask.

  3. Man this is awesome, thanks a lot for the video, its very helpful.
if you plan on doing another video, could it be a mosaic decensore on a colored pic ?

i tried to give a try to this doujin by Mosha: http://g.e-hentai.org/g/34602/bb293fee37/
i just ended up stuck and clueless since there are no defined guide lines to follow. http://g.e-hentai.org/s/da58fd00fd/34602-7

if you'll have some spare time and feel like trying it out, it will be extremely helpful.
    thanks again for doing vids.

    1. Next time I go a Number2 doujinshi I'll make a video to show how I do it. That being said in the example picture you gave the best way to kind of get an idea of how to start defining things is to either zoom the image way out to make the mosaics less noticeable or simply let your eyes go out of focus. This will show a rough stretch of how it should look.

Start by making the major lines you want. Usually you can get an idea for the line thickness and color elsewhere in the image. After that you can brush over the entire mosaic with the main color. This will be the base for the image that you basically have to recreate using some creativity and maybe some sampling from the rest of the image to get a look that fits and blends in at the end.

Don't worry about being super accurate just aim for something that blends in. The goal after all is to get the image to a point that the typical viewer can't tell where or if it was censored to begin with.

    2. Thanks a lot for the tips :)
i am not good at this like you are, but your decensore works are very inspiring.

maybe one day you could work your magic on this doujin, Mosha is a fantastic artist.
in the meantime i'll keep practicing.

  4. Thank you for the video. Like Anon457 said, your decensors are very inspiring. Been decensoring a couple of manga but I always have difficulty blending it with the original art.

What hardware do you use for your brush strokes?

    1. For brush strokes I use a tablet, specifically a VisTablet. Honestly though I don't recommend using this tablet. I've had a number of issues with it and I have to reinstall the drivers every time I reboot my computer. I have to install the drivers if I want to use photoshop at all because it seems to have some sort of program conflict. Maybe it's just me or maybe the programing for it was poorly done, I'm not sure.

The only reason I've not gotten a new tablet is because, other than having to reinstall the drivers each time, I've gotten it to work. So I figure I'll use it as long as I can to get my money's worth out of it. But if you want to decensor or do mostly any kind of photoshop work I would say a tablet is a must have, just not the one I have lol.

With a tablet I can use pressure sensitivity to alter the size or opacity of the brush strokes under the brush options in photoshop. It is also MUCH easier to draw a with a tablet compared to a mouse, once you get the hang of it. Sometimes I may use the pen tool to make brush strokes for me which only requires a mouse.

If you are having trouble blending hopefully these videos I'm releasing will help you out.

    2. I might be getting a tablet soon. For now, I'm stuck with my mouse and the pen tool. Thanks for the info about the tablet!

Last series of questions, hope I'm not too annoying (last one I promise!).

Are there any rules you try to adhere to, like, not to alter the art? Or to alter the art to fit the decensor? I admit, I sometimes have a poor imagination to see the picture especially when it has big black bars. To give an example:

      http://imagetwist.com/j8nop8e03x5g/sample.jpg.html

This is what I meant by art blending. Due to this, I haven't released it due to art alteration. Is this an acceptable trade-off or is it just bad practice?

      Thanks!

  5. You're not annoying at all. I rather enjoy these questions. It lets me share my knowledge, and if it means more good decensors from others I'm all for it.

I personally try to minimize alterations to the original art most of the time, but this is not an absolute rule I follow. I have intentionally altered artwork to add more detail or compensate for a bad scan on a number of occasions. Heck even in the last thing I released there were parts I did that, mostly for the urethra opening. A lot of detail I added because the black bars were big enough to allow me the freedom and space to draw it in.

The example you give looks pretty good and most people would most likely be satisfied with the results. I can certainly see spots you missed or lines that were misinterpreted when comparing side-by-side but most people are not going to do that and therefore won't notice it.

To be more specific, in your example the on the upper bar on the left the liquid should flow through were the bar was and meet up with the little white dot near the edge of the penis. The vaginal insertion line is also too low. You can see the faint line of where it extents to the right and left of the T bar censorship. The vaginal lips are also solid lines all the way through but it does not appear that way in the original.

You probably noticed some of this yourself and without a tablet it certainly makes it more difficult.

I would not call it bad practice, I would call it a personal choice. When decensoring, make it look how you want it to look. My personal choice is usually minimize altering the original artist's work because I feel it makes look more natural, but at the end of the day the goal is too make the material more enjoyable for fapping. So I'd say do what you want and if others don't like it, they don't need to download it.

  6. Thanks for the input! I see what you mean about the T bar censorship. I'm all for minimizing alteration. I'll see what I can do.

  7. Thanks for this! it's good to see that I'm on the right track using the correct tools for the job.
If I may ask, what is your clone stamp tool's hardness setting at ? 0% or 100% ?

In general I don't have too much difficulty blending or drawing missing lines. It's mostly figuring out where and when to put lines that gets me. As it is decensoring dicks goes fine (ex: org http://imagetwist.com/zs04qro0j8yz/0182.png.html, decen http://imagetwist.com/hdk5s77564u7/0182dc.png.html)

but when faced with a highly censored vagina I'm like a penguin stuck in the desert without a map or ice cooler. When given extremities of lines I'll be able to fill in the gaps but there's quite a few lines that are self contained in censored areas or that require more than a simple a to b trajectory. Depending on the angle and position I'm often clueless as to what should be visible where and how big. Any advice on this front ?

PS: A handy trick, 'Crtl+H' will toggle the visibility of the selection borders which makes it much easier to see if the pattern within the selection is blending well with what's outside it. I use it a fair amount since I try to keep within the borders of the censor as much as possible.

    1. Usually I set the stamp to 100% but sometimes I'll use my tablet and set the pressure sensitivity on if I need less than 100% for blending. I mostly do this when screentones have a gradient and change within a censored region.

As for censoring that requires more than an a to b trajectory, a lot of the help I got with that is experience. I struggled with this myself for sometime and you can see some of the older stuff I did shows how my decensoring doesn't really fit in sometimes. Certainly not as well what I release today.

Sometimes I have the good fortune of having a lot of different sources from an artist to get an idea of their art style. Sometimes one's artist's work may be heavily censored while another work may be only lightly censored and I can use the various illustrations that an artist has released over the years and study them to get a feel for how it might look in a more heavily censored art piece. I look for things like, does the artist draw thick or thin lines, does an artist draw a lot of detail or not, more realistic or artistic, etc.

I also use large censoring as an opportunity to draw how I would like to see it. In the end I like to see detail but I want things to blend in and look natural as well. It's up to you as a decensorer. A good example is Number2 doujins I've decensored. The mosaic censoring in those works cover so much that I only have a very general idea of how it should look. There is no way I can accurately recreate how it would look without the censoring so it ends up being more of a re-draw rather than a decensoring.

Nowadays, I'm at a point where I can usually see how something should look even before I decensor, but for the images where you can't or are unsure; I would start along the edges of the censoring, a region that you're more confident about. (Extending lines and that sort of thing.) Then maybe you'll have a better picture after you've removed some of the censoring. If all else fails just redraw how you'd like and keep editing it until you think it looks pretty good.

I also recommend taking breaks on tough projects and coming back to them later. I'll help give you a fresh perspective and you might have a eureka moment. Sometimes just thinking about it and sleeping on it can generate creativity and inspiration. I've done this a number of times and while it may sound a little weird I can't understate it's importance. I've had many such eureka moments over the years.

You can also study other artist's art style or study photos of vaginal areas to get a better understanding of how the region should look.

I would also not over-worry about being hyper accurate I just focus on blending things in and making it look natural to a point that one can't tell where the original censoring was to begin with.

    Also do by killing censorship.
